Just because you don't see them in stores does not make them outdated. They're the highest quality windows based laptops available. I don't know much about LG laptops, but I'll assume that they're only in the netbook business so I'd stay away. Unless you're really set on the Macintosh OS, I would not get an apple computer - the price premium hefty. You can get a very nice Lenovo R or T series 14.1" for 700-1000 dollars (depending on customization).

I know LG has some decent and proper notebooks in the Korean Domestic Market but they are quite hard to see overseas.

If you really don't have much choice and i'm presuming you live in Korea, only because i've never seen LG laptops outside the KDM, then i would suggest you stick to one of the Samsung Models.

From what i know Lenovo/IBM isn't a particularly large brand in Korea, so even if you can buy one over there, support is going to be hard to get

Or you can always go for the safe option, the New Plastic MacBook that got released today looks reasonable

Comp restarted for no reason in the middle of a partitioning, lost 400GB of data, gonna pick up a new boot drive in a week or so and see if I can recover any of it.

I'm sad. So much work, gone, because I haven't backed up in a few months. I am so stupid!

I feel your pain, i lost a 750GB WD drive recently due to a Disk Board Failure, i got quoted something like $800 to get the data recovered from a data recovery center (A proper one, not some dodgy Geek Squad style one)

But if your hard drive still works have you tried perhaps using a recovery software like recurva etc?
You might have lost the partition table but there might be a few things still recoverable if you are lucky
