Water distiller 증류수기, Posted 09/12/01, 06:21 AM #1
Just a "I want to let you know" information !

I get water delivered, but yearly it cost more than 100.000 won... , water purifier 정수기 cost money too, and I heard stories about bacteria and virus in the filter growing after 1 month... :( makes sense, water and warm temperature= bacteria

So now the ajossi says he will come Wednesday, and I have no water, so I used Brita filter:

but even though the smell is gone, it looks weird like sugary water, and after drinking 1 L. I feel funny and I want to eat something to get the taste from my throat. It also smells faintly like sewage. So now after a long search of more than 2 days ! I found a water distiller online which will sell to Korea.

with shipping it will cost 235.000 Canadian dollar= 235.000 won ! I'm excited and I get a Christmas 5% discount too !

http://www.canada-shops.com/Stores/e...c333864.2.html

On gmarket it cost 480.000 won http://gen.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/n...F9%BC%F6%B1%E2

I wonder why it's not a big thing in Korea. I mean I came to this conclusion on my own so at least more people like me should be in need of this? Look at what's in British tapwater!~~ imagine now Hangang water ! :-) Carbon filter is 정수기필터 and REv. Osmosis I dont know. Sounds fancy though hh.

You do know that water is filtered, purified, oxidized, fluoridated even before it reaches your tap?

I've seen reports saying that pure tap water is sometimes cleaner than these purifiers just because no one seems to maintain the filters and such in these things.

I personally just drink straight from the tap, it is Australia but i would think the purification standards aren't that different from the rest of the world

umm... that will totally depend on which country and area you live in.

Hence why i mentioned i lived in Australia but even still how different would filtration methods in different countries?

It is a pretty established field and i would suspect the main differences would be the different amounts of fluoride put into the water?

Either way nothing wrong with water distillers but also nothing too wrong with drinking from the tap

Britain: the water was pumped up from 200 m down the dunes at the beach, best quality water, but shockingly a few meters down the beach all the mussel beds were mysteriously dying which later was proven to be caused by sewage overspill, the pipe being just a few 100 m further spilling raw sewage in the sea where I used to surf lol.

Australia: You guys going to need distillers badly, I would opt for solar distillers, cuz you guys got too much sun and no rain ! But so far its all still beautiful down south. Yeah I know you lucky bums there have it all.

Korea:
  1. Only 1 % of the Seoul population drinks tapwater. Even though the water companies are the best in the world, and most of the corrosive pipes have been replaced, the watertanks of your apartment can cause a lot of contamination. There have been 3 serious health situations with the water recently, and the government warned the people not to drink the water only after a few days it got out exposing 10 million people needlessly to Legionairres/e-coli. But luckily most of them use water purifiers.
  2. There are many old people who walk up the mountains with 20 Liter plastic bottles to fill them up with clean (free) springwater from public streams in the mountains. Old people dont strike me as especially foolish to waste their time and energy on hiking up the mountain at 6am to fill up some waterbottles when their tapwater would be fine to drink.
  3. The water smells extremely heavy of chlorine and as I said, once the chlorine smell was taken out by the Brita filter the remaining smell was that of ... SEWAGE !!! omg.. !
  1. I drank 1 L. of it as tea and had stomach cramps and a tight throat and jaws, and that was after Brita filtration and boiling for 1 min. I have never had that even after drinking heavily chlorinanated water at my sister's in London for 1 month. At least that water doesn 't smell as Korean tapwater.
I think the case here is that if you would drink it, eventually you would get used to it, but by drinking so much your body would have to struggle with all the contaminants, heavy metals and other dissolved solids, so teh question here in Korea to me was: buy a waterpurifier with filters = 170.000 per year, or buy a distiller. And not whether I should drink the tapwater or not.

that question has been answered here:

Fair enough i'm sure everyone has different needs.

Also just a note, but most people consider yahoo answer in the same way they consider spam, so not much

It is probably better to get a more respected source, here it is
